Better Health Channel The Better Health Channel provides health and medical information with features such as fact sheets, medical dictionary, personal stories, recipes, health services, health news and Q&A. The Coeliac Society of Australia The Coeliac Society represents the individual coeliac societies of each state in Australia, to provide a united group to achieve their objectives. The website provides clear and concise information about coeliac disease, associated conditions and management. Department of Health and Ageing The Department of Health and Ageing has a diverse set of responsibilities, but throughout there is a common purpose, which is reflected in their Vision statement: Better health and active ageing for all Australians. Dietitians Association of Australia The Dietitians Association of Australia is a membership based organization for dieticians, students, and people seeking a dietician (by location or qualification/specialty). There is also some information available on the site about nutrition and healthy eating. Food Science Australia Food Science Australia is a joint venture between the Victorian Government and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO). This was setup to research all stages of the food production chain including consumers, market access, nutrition, healthy food, product delivery and production/assembly. Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) Food Standards Australia New Zealand develops food standards relating to both the content and labels. Part of this site is a Nutrition Panel Calculator tool which can be used to work out the nutritional value of any product, based on it’s ingredients. Go For Your Life Go For Your Life is a Victorian Government initiative aiming to promote healthy eating and increase levels of physical activity. There are a number of fact sheets available, as well as quizzes and FAQ. The site is categorised into age groups as well, so the information can be appropriately targeted. Health Insite The Health Insite is an Australian Government Initiative to provide reliable health information through articles, newsletters and resource lists. International Diabetes Institute The International Diabetes Institute is an international centre for diabetes research and education. Although this is an American website, the information about living with diabetes and related issues is relevant to anyone with the disease worldwide. Nutrition Australia Nutrition Australia is a non-government, non-profit community based organization providing nutrition information, such as an explanation of all the food symbols on labels, and the healthy food pyramid. Vegetarian Network Victoria Inc. (VNV) Vegetarian Network Victoria Inc. (VNV), founded in 1998, is a not-for-profit organisation based in Melbourne, Australia. It is run by people who care about human health, animal welfare and the environment. VNV is devoted to promoting the many benefits of vegetarianism and providing quality service, support and up-to-date information to vegetarians, vegans and the general community. Although it is not an industry representation body, it acts a source of information and commentary on these issues. ABCL also provides consumers with an extensive collection of information relating to the role of commercial beverages in Australian’s diets. Australasian Bottled Water Institute The Australasian Bottled Water Institute (ABWI) is the industry body and certification organisation for water bottlers and suppliers in Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific Islands. ABWI also provides information on the vitally important role water takes in the human body functioning. Food Safety Information Council The Food Safety Information Council is Australia’s largest distributor of consumer targeted food safety information. It is a non-profit organisation supported by the Australian Department of Health and Ageing and constantly promotes food safety throughout the year as well as organising National Food Safety Week ever November. Grains Research and Development Corporation The Grains Research and Development Corporation is responsible for overseeing all stages of the research process and then deliver improvements in production, sustainability, and profitability throughout the Australian grains industry. The Australian Institute of Food Science and Technology Incorporated The Australian Institute of Food Science and Technology Incorporated (AIFST) is a not-for-profit industry association the represents individuals across all areas of the food science and technology industry. Food Safety The Food Safety website is a Victorian Government run site which provides information and tools that will assist you in keeping your food safe at home and at work. Food Safety Matters The Food Safety Matters website is a Queensland Government run website which is a training and teaching resource on how to handle food in a safe manner. It features a teacher’s manual and student guide to help in school environments. CSIRO Food and Nutritional Sciences The CSIRO Food and Nutritional Sciences is Australia’s largest food research organisation. It conducts food and nutrition research in order to support the health and wellbeing of the Australian community, as well as improve the sustainability and viability of the Australian food industry. Infant Nutrition Council The Infant Nutrition Council represents the infant formula industry in Australia and New Zealand, as well as aiming to improve infant nutrition by supporting public health goals for the promotion of breastfeeding and the use of infant formula when suitable.
