Dermatitis herpetiformis
|
Dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) is a gluten-sensitive, blistering skin disease. Found more often in males, these small, intensely itchy blisters are usually located around the elbows, knees and buttocks.
Many people with DH have few gastrointestinal symptoms, even though they also have coeliac disease. A skin biopsy of the blistered area is necessary to diagnose DH. Medication is usually given to control the rash in the short term. However, a gluten-free diet is recommended for lifelong control of the rash.
